CARRY ON AT THE COLBERT

Colbert, a decadent French style cafe on Sloane Square serving a well rounded menu all day, to a very mixed madding crowd, including business folk, the slightly age -ed plastic fantastic, European families and chic couples. Find your place and people watch.

Previously, restaurateurs Corbin & King have delighted many of us with The Wolseley, Delaunay and Zedel and now have put their magic touch to the old Oriel site in Chelsea. Launched October 2012, Cafe Colbert offers patrons a plethora of choice classics on the all day menu such as Oysters, Steak Tartare and Fish Soup but with plenty of salads and safer options for balance and wide appeal. The breakfast looked particularly appealing with an eclectic selection from full English, bacon sandwiches, porridge and not forgetting the watermelon, pineapple and pomegranate fruit salad. This is my kind of menu; breakfast, lunch and dinner, 1 or 3 courses there is something for everyone.

Staff are able (it seems a foreign accent is a must to continue the illusion we are all somewhere aboard) service is professionally executed and edible delights are served in a comfortable and stylish environment. The very clever interior design with vintage props, posters and photos of an era past that all seduce the audience (customers) to buy into restaurant hustle and bustle theatre, setting the stage for feeling of an established old hat of cafe that has been in position for a long time, to a host of patrons ranging from local business types, Chelsea girls and boys, families, ladies who lunch, the refined Royal Borough granny pack (recovering from their last plastic surgery soirées in the South Of France). Pure people watching pleasure!

Ultimately Cafe Colbert pulls off a smooth service with aplomb, less of a grand dame than The Wolseley but sits very well in its high value Sloane Square position. This is somewhere you can dine and feel confident that you know what you’ll get. This is my fourth time at the Colbert since it opened in autumn and each time I have felt feeling content, amused and sure I will return.

Entertaining: Oui, mais bien sûr! This café comes in quite handy. Great for a breakfast meetings by week, pre theatre, or family brunch by weekend. This phone number is on speed dial.

Could eat and enjoy from £25 plus per head – more with booze. Pop in for breakfast 8 till midday, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

In the pipe line – this restaurateur super duo are working with property group Grosvenor, developing an Art Deco style building into a luxury, bespoke hotel in Mayfair. The hotel is due to open in 2014. We have high hopes.
