Choo choo! All aboard the champagne train at this decadent Soho establishment. We feast our senses in Bob Bob Ricard’s wonderland of delights from the staff in pink suites, high design interiors and voluptuous Oysters. Take your seats, sit back and enjoy the ride.
Bob Bob Ricard is fairly inconspicuous from the outside, ideally located within the heart of Soho, with only hints of the design and glamour on the inside. Walk through those double doors and get ready for an assault on the senses as the David Collins designs cocoon you in the story of the restaurant. It feel like a most glamorous old fashioned train carriage – a little Poirot, Orient Express with intimate booth seating for 2 to 8 people. Give in to the urge to touch everything, the design is intense – from textural wallpapers, light features, shiny fittings and the BBR monogram at every turn. It’s cosy, elegant and a little over the top and I want everything – pretty much how I would describe the menu.
The menu serves an eclectic mix of luxury English and Russian dishes (obligatory caviar and vodkas at the start of the menu) in a glamorous all-booth dining room with ingredients sourced from small, traditionally run farms, dairies, fisheries and family-owned producers mainly in the British Isles. The options available on the dinner menu range from Oysters to Smokey Borsch to start, the mains include Caesar Salad, Chicken and Champagne Pie, Lobster Burger but there are also simpler options available such as Grilled Fillets of Sea Bass, not forgetting the tongue in cheek – Humble Pie (with Black Truffle and Champagne as two of the ingredients – this is anything but humble) for just one of the veggie options.
The wines and champagnes have due consideration also – much choice by the glass for champagnes too. We are told that there is a very conscious effort to be reasonable with the mark up on the wines and means this is a practical venue if you are thinking about an endeavour into that top end area of the wine list.
We ate half a dozen Oysters, Sea Bass Ceviche with Avocado to start, which were both mouth-wateringly fresh and scrumptious and for mains we had Sea Food Linguine and the Mariners Fish Pie – with whole prawns, large morsels of Salmon, Smoked Haddock with Mussels. The pie came with the most beautiful and impressive monogrammed puff pastry. The Seafood Linguine again was generous with the sea food with Brown Shrimp, Crab, Prawn and Cherry Tomatoes, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We would have ventured in the land of dessert but our bellies just wouldn’t stretch any further, so with some token branded truffles we bid an epic dinner adieu. Just another excuse to return.
From start to finish there is an adorable and appreciated attention to detail. Perfect for a special occasion but equally available as an option for a meeting spot. The monogramization of everything ( inc bins in the bathrooms) is an epidemic of hilarious proportions but at the same time divine.
Entertaining: This is somewhere to bring your mother, lover, client and friend. There are tables from 2 till 8 and private dining room for up to 10 guests. The booth offers both a button that say ‘press for champagne’ to make anyone feel special and also a plug sockets so you can work/ have meetings by day.
Bobby’s Bar downstairs from the restaurant offers possible private hire potential (when not open to the public) and offers luxury English cocktails including the ‘must have’ Pink Rhubarb Gin & Tonic.
Please check website for opening times – and note that they are closed Sundays. Dress code applies but enforced loosely – work attire by day is fine and they say elegant for the evenings. Also there is a no under 12’s policy so no mini rug rats I am afraid.
