This weekend is going to be a rather boozy start to February – not that we are complaining, as we shall be heading to both the launch of Floridita’s ‘Rum Shack’ in Soho and Appleton’s Rum collaboration pop up the Portside Parlour in oh so hip Hackney.
Soho Shack – Floridita Rum Shack, will be integrating a Cuban ‘beach shack’ inspired drinking experience area under those great big stairs in the heart of London’s West End. The new space pays homage to the vibrant culture of Cuba and Latin America, with the celebrated Floridita ethos of vibrancy, glamour and theatre. It is designed by interior designer Joanna Berrymman of Matrushka, with walls made of reclaimed wood, accented by vintage neon lights, palm trees, rum barrel tables, retro signage, flags and fishing nets to recreate the spirit of Cuba in the heart of London, which tie in with Floridita’s energetic Latin American theme.
Floridita’s bar already boasts the most extensive selection of rums in Europe and offers a cocktail menu that celebrates the huge versatility of rum with cocktails inspired from around the globe. Choose from cocktails such as Hemingway Punch: a wicked blend of Barcardi Superior and Maraschino Liqueur inspired by Ernest Hemingway or a Cheeky Monkey: a blend made using Chairman’s Reserve – mellow on the palate with a complex mix of ripe raisin fruit, tobacco and spice – served in a tiki glass.

Hackney Shack – Portside Parlour Pop Up Also launching on Friday is PortSide Parlour in collaboration with Appleton Estate Rum and is apparently East London’s first pop-up rum cocktail bar with a choice selection of over 50 different specialty rums. The hot-shared cocktails sounds particularly fun and dangerous. These drunken sailors will also run fortnightly rum clubs with tasting sessions held by the brand ambassadors themselves, suitable for the rum enthusiast & the rum curious alike.
Styling promises to be like a ‘decedent captains quarters, with old leather-bound books as menu’s, hot buttered rum pouring out of vintage copper spirit kettles, lit by candlelight and set to a backtrack of rock n’ roll blues;’ sound fun me mateys? We have also heard they will be running a rum lockers system a.k.a “Davie Jones Locker” allowing customers to pick their favourite bottle of rum, buy it by the bottle and can be kept behind the bar to enjoy as and when.
