OUT WITH CHAOS, IN TO CLARIDGE’S

Walk through the iconic revolving doors and feel time start to slow down. Come in from the cold, come in from the chaos and come into Claridge’s. Choose style and substance for the refined ritual of Afternoon Tea.

The Art Deco lobby entices you further in the hotel, towards The Foyer & Reading Room where a quintessentially British afternoon tea is served. Sit down in the muted toned surroundings, savour the sights, sounds and sweet decadence of what is on offer; enjoy the sanctuary, the perfect antithesis to the fast pace of London life and entertaining. Take a welcome break from trash food, stalls and quick eats (which we are also clearly fans of, but no one should have too much of anything, balance is the key – is it not?).

THE CALM OF CLARIDGE'S, LONDON

THE CALM INTERIORS OF CLARIDGE’S, LONDON

The Foyers & Reading Room rooms ooze elegance no matter what time of day. It clearly affects and influences its inhabitant’s behaviour, tourists all but put their cameras away (more or less), there seems to be just the right level of chatter – and like a miracle we notice there is no obscene shouting into mobile phones, people are looking at each other, marvelling at the spread before them rather than texting, heads down. How amazing. Everything just seems to have a softer edge here. The waiting staff are just the right balance of attentive, there are clear service procedures, it is all rather reassuring.

It’s a lovely tradition in times of uncertainty and change; tea, we love it don’t we? At Claridge’s there are almost 40 teas on the list, from British blends, traditional teas, organic options and infusions. We started with a pot of Darjeeling and then discovered Earl Grey with Lavender. It was a warm comforting cuddle in a tea cup. Then comes the beautiful bit sized bliss, delectably dinky fingers sandwiches (glad to see more brown bread sandwiches on the plate these days), warm scones, followed by cakes. Claridge’s has tea down to an art. Relax into the ritual, melt away into the understated glamour of the Art Deco interior, into the live music. It is little wonder they have consecutively been given an Award of Excellence by the Tea Guild.

A STYLISH TABLE - HOW MUCH DO WE WANT THIS TEA SET IN THE OFFICE?!

A STYLISH TABLE – HOW MUCH DO WE WANT THIS TEA SET IN THE OFFICE?!

Classic Afternoon Tea at £40 pp + service (Champagne and seasonal afternoon teas also available) includes

A selection of loose leaf teas and herbal infusions

A delicious array of finger sandwiches

A selection of sweet pastries

Freshly baked raisin and apple scones with Marco Polo jelly and Cornish clotted cream

We particularly enjoyed the warm, soft and perfectly formed scones with the goo-iest clotted cream we have ever encountered!

The value lies in the quality, continuity and comfort, in the live music, in infinite amounts of soothing and warming teas and tiers of sweet bites. It is one of those sure bets for me. I know without a doubt this is somewhere I can recommend to everyone…and believe me I do. I might be their number one fan!

Entertaining: Why ever not. If bank balance allows and you want to show that quality is a key value to you, then we certainly suggest Claridge’s for Tea. It might be a more female preferred mode of entertaining but we know plenty of our clients, friends and family that would not say no to partaking in a little tea and cake at Claridge’s.

(On another note – We are looking forward to finding out who will be replacing Gordon Ramsey at Claridge’s – we’ll let you know when we hear anything)

Make sure you book and don’t’ forget the dress code (Elegant smart casual; no shorts, vests, sportswear, flip flops, ripped jeans or baseball caps). As if you would??!!!
