The World’s ‘Greenest’ Vodka Launches at Selfridges
We had the pleasure of sampling new British Artisan Vodka – Element 29, at The Shop In Kensal Rise last week. This new liquid delight offers a revolutionary eco friendly refill packaging system, making it the most environmentally friendly spirit currently available on the market, excellent, less guilt when indulging!
The Vodka is made with the purest ingredients; it is named after copper (the 29th element in the periodic table), which gives the spirit its unique smoothness and distinctive character. It is unbelievably smooth, easy straight-up and infinitely blend-able in cocktails, with subtle notes of grass and citrus.
Currently available in Selfridges with a three-tier installation featuring all sizes of Element 29 Vodka and bottles for refill. Did you know that refilling bottles provides a 100% saving on the carbon cost of producing new glass and the amount of energy saved by refilling one bottle could power a 100 watt bulb for up to 11 hours. Customers can drop in with their empty bottles and have them refilled with the premium spirit Element 29 or Element 29 Dark Caramel and Sea Salt; a super blend of sweet n’ savory.
This new wave vodka is the second drinks project from Chef, food and drinks writer, Mark Douglas Hill (of Bloodshot Vodka). It has been created through combining both ancient and cutting edge techniques and with the best of British natural resources; beginning in the fertile flatlands of East Anglia where the winter wheat is harvested and used as the base for the vodka. It then travels north to Manchester where it is mashed, malted and fermented to a strong malt liquor. A state-of-the-art tower still then repeatedly distills it seven times until it attains absolute purity.
The final distillation then takes place in ‘Angela’, an antique copper pot still dating from 1903 at the Langley distillery in the Black Country. The copper draws out the very essence of the grain, developing all the spirit’s natural sweetness and delicate nuances of flavour.
We took our sample down to one of our fave bars – The Shop, Kensal Rise. The Shop is the perfect little local; a trendy watering hole with a winning cocktail list and back bar, great team who know their sh*t about all things drinkable, host regular pop ups (such as PingTron, When Mac met Cheese and lots more) and where everything is for sale – including the tables.
Shop folk – Luke and Patrick indulged us in lip tingling juicy cocktails blended with Element 29. The Shop team were most generous and created a cocktail for our readers to make at home.

Element 29 is a ‘green’ vodka, offering a unique packaging system. The spirit is packed into ‘12 bottle refill reservoirs’ which are used to refill the distinctive frosted service bottles. This innovation reduces packaging by 95%, cutting transported weight by 45%, transported volume by 63% and completely avoids the carbon costs of producing and recycling glass. This environmentally friendly innovation also makes Element 29 the conscious drinkers wise choice.
