THE ALICE HOUSE – BRUNCH & COCKTAILS

Alice House occupies a leafy Queens’ Park corner and offers a relaxed bruncher’s haven in comfortable surroundings, with friendly service and kitschy novel touches to please many a bleary bruncher.

SOFA SUNDAYS. PERFECT AFTER A BIG FEED…

A good host knows a good brunch – a super social and casual outing, facilitating lazy shared weekend mornings/ early afternoons; an unambitious way to enjoy downtime with friends and family. No need to dress up – unless of course you want to. It’s entertaining at it’s easiest – especially if you pick your place wisely, gauging food and ambience to guest and occasion.

The Alice House feels like a morning oasis, with pretty herb pots on the tables and considered mismatched furniture offering a variety of choices for tables, sofas, large and small bookings. We say try the back room – The Library for groups. There is a fire place for the winter and doors that open in the summer.

Alice House offers something we loved the idea of – Brunch and Cocktails, it sounds like a ready made for a Sunday celebration. Choose one of the ‘Teapot Cocktails’ serving between 4 and 6 people, such as the Blossom Berry Tea with red berries, Beefeater Gin and Crème de Mure, topped with chilled Super Berry Tea – the perfect summer pick-me-up.

TEAPOT TIPPLES....

The teapots are a lovely visual touch, certainly for the Instagram generation. Also available in a non-alcoholic version, if your previous nights antics have made you wake up swearing you’ll never drink again.

The food served on the brunch menu is reasonable, there are no boundaries being pushed, no 7 hours eggs (bathed in tepid goat’s milk that have been sung to by virgins, while a full moon shone) on your plate, fair enough. Our Scrambled Eggs with Smoked Salmon and Eggs Benedict hit the spot although the Benedicts’s muffins were a little on the heavy/hard side but we were told they were made in-house, which is a lovely idea… in theory.

We’d certainly go back to Alice House for the friendliness of the staff, the comfort of the interiors and overall ambience.

Entertaining: Alice House works well for us as a casual brunch destination, pick the room at the back for group bookings and close to the bar if you like to watch Bloody Marys in the making. The Library, which can hold up to 60 people for private hire, allows you to linger over a lazy Saturday brunch whilst browsing through the collection of classic books, all available to read and borrow. PLEASE NOTE – THE BRUNCH MENU IS ONLY SERVED TILL MIDDAY.

We were guests at Alice House – thank you very much to the lovely people that accommodated us and were so hospitable.

A big thank you to Ben K @Sh00tmyhead from Head Photographic for the images. Beautiful as always.
