Who’d have thought that Tooting would be new ‘it’ dining destination neighbourhood in SW London? Can’t say that we predicted that one a few years ago but slowly an infusion of fresh talent has seen the area abuzz with hungry ‘saff’ of the river eat’sters..
It actually makes sense. Tooting has long been beloved as the South London fragrant spice route, banging out some of best curries in the land but how refreshing to see so many new flavours, after all that’s what we love about London isn’t! The complete mishmash of people, flavours and talents!
Top Six Tooting Eats
Soho House folks do it again. After the success of the Kentish Town Chicken Shop, Tooting was next on their list. Serving up free-range birds from Norfolk’s Banham farm, spit roasted, served with simple but tasty sides and small but concise selection of drinks. Patrons come in all shapes and size, families and couples all enjoying some finger- licken chicken fun. Take away is clearly very popular.
Having just opened recently in a prime position in Tooting, Honest Burgers, brings their tried and tested simple, quality focused menu to SW17. This burger joint continues to come up with new and exciting burger specials, so check the black board – Most recently we spied a Backyard Burger, filled with beef, American cheese, tobacco onions, backyard mayo and lettuce all in a steamed bun has caught our eyes (and our bellies)! Gluten free buns available.
Seconds away from Tooting Broadway station, tram and social gives the word pub a whole new meaning. With burlesque nights, live band and open mic nights this pub definitely keeps one entertained! Open until 2am on weekends, and a range of beers and wines hit up Tram and Social for a different style south London boozer experience.
TOTA, offers the ideal little local eatery, proffering delicious dishes with top-notch ingredients. Open for coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner, TOTA will try to soothe the soul with comforting classics but whatever you do, save room for desserts. Head chef and owner at TOTA makes the best homemade deserts in town!
Proper pub been there for donkeys-years but it has had a bit of a makeover. Long gone is the concrete car park and now lies a large faux grass garden, perfect post work rose wine on a summers eve or nest inside, nursing a bottle of red and hearty roast on a Sunday! Unpretentious, modern pub
Hosting a hidden library, a main space straight out of a members’ bar, a secret garden and a free cinema it seems like this pub has it all. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner this is a cracking pub with delightful quirks. Our favourite is the bunch menu with classics like a 3 Cumberland sausage sarnie on wholemeal for a barginous £5!
